KaSAM-2016: An International Conference on Material Sciences is about to kick off in Pokhara, Nepal

POKHARA , NEPAL , October 14, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Pokhara, the most popular tourist city of Western Nepal, is all set to host its first ever international meeting on Material Sciences. The “Kathmandu Symposia on Advanced Materials-2016", abbreviated as KaSAM-2016 will take place in Mount Kailash Resort,Pokhara from October 17-20, 2016. This third edition of biennial KaSAM series has been organized by Nepal Polymer Institute (NPI) in association with Pokhara University, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and Institut für Polymerwerkstoffe (IPW)- Merseburg, Germany.

Santosh Thapa, a member of the Organizing Committee and PhD Fellow at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, USA, said that “Scientists form more than 15 countries throughout the world will present the findings of their recent researches during KaSAM-2016. More than 140 papers on recent advancement in material sciences and engineering,polymers, nanomaterials, nanomedicine, medicinal chemistry, and other related fields will be discussed during the four days program. The technical program of KaSAM-2016 consists of Keynote Lectures from renowned professors/scientists, Oral Presentations and Poster Session in the related fields. A special symposium will be dedicated to ‘Science, Technology & Innovations for Nepal’."

Dr. Rameshwar Adhikari,Convener of the event and Professor of Chemistry at Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu & President of the Nepal Polymer Institute (only National Representative Organization of IUPAC in Nepal),stated that “KaSAM-2016 is continuation of a long-term initiatives of Nepal Polymer Institute to establish research and scientific activities in the field of material sciences,and nanotechnology in Nepal.The conference and the accompanying autumn school is hoped to be a milestone in promoting young minds and their dedication towards research and innovation in scientific arenas in the country."

Prof. Adhikari further mentioned that many eminent scientists from all over the world have already confirmed their participation to KaSAM-2016. Among the list are Prof. Bernhard Bluemich (Aachen University, GERMANY), Prof. Holger Schönherr, (University of Siegen, GERMANY), Prof. Jean Marc Saiter (Université de Normandie, FRANCE), Prof. Valerio Causin (Università degli Studi di Padova, ITALY), Prof. Ashutosh Tiwari (Linköping University, SWEDEN), Prof. Shigeru Okamoto (Nagoya Institute of Technology, JAPAN), Prof. Shinichi Sakurai and Prof. Hirokazu Hasegawa from the Kyoto Institute of Technology, JAPAN, Dr. Jakub Sirc (Academy of Sciences of CZECH REPUBLIC), Dr. Ralf Lach (Polymer Service GmbH Merseburg, GERMANY), Ms. Gwendolyn Bluemich (Strategic Education & Workforce Development Initiatives, GLOBAL FOUNDRIES, USA), Prof. Susanta Banerjee (Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur, INDIA), among others.

According to a recent statement issued by the organizers, a pre-conference workshop –‘Second Kathmandu Autumn School on Chemistry and Chemical Technologies (KASChem-2016)- Part I’ for students and young scientists will be arranged in Pokhara University in October 17 and similar workshops will also be arranged in Chitwan and Biratngar after the conference.
